About Us
The Philippine Institute of Petroleum
The Philippine Institute of Petroleum or PIP, is a non-stock, non-profit and SEC-registered grouping of businesses operating in the downstream oil industry in the Philippines. We are an independent body representing the common interests of our members with different publics. At present, our member companies include: Chevron Philippines, Inc; Isla Petroleum and Gas Corporation; Petron Corporation; Shell Pilipinas Corporation; PTT Philippines Corporation; and, Total (Philippines) Corporation.
The original members were Caltex, Petron, Shell, Total, and Mobil. We were established in July 1996 to help the government in implementing the deregulation of the downstream oil industry. Discussions on Pricing, marketing and route to market strategies are not allowed and not conducted in PIP. Ongoing concerns normally center on, but not limited to the: (a) quality and integrity of products and facilities; (b) health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) concerns; (c) providing of industry responses and insights to legislative and or executive branch resolutions; (d) mutual assistance in times of disasters and calamities; and ( e) commissioning of researches and studies to help guide member companies in their common advocacies.
Any company engaged in the downstream oil business, as defined in Section 4, paragraph (a) of R.A. 8479 (Downstream Oil Deregulation Law), is qualified for membership to PIP and is subject to approval by its Board of Directors. Types of memberships are Regular, Associate, Individual, and Institutional members. Our Individual Members include distinguished personalities from the business sector, organizations and the academe.

What We Do
We create a venue/forum for the sharing, preservation and refinement of best practices in the field of health, safety, environment and quality (HSEQ).
We act as industry oversight group for concerns in the areas of product quality and facilities standards, transport and handling practices, and compliance with relevant Government regulations affecting the industry.
We provide some central data source and research base that will assist interested investors, researchers and other parties in understanding the industry.
We keep pace with developments abroad by establishing working linkages with counterpart institutes.
We liaise with the Government in policy planning for the downstream oil sector and acting as an advocate for the development and establishment of such policies.
We also serve as the industry’s spokesman vis-a-vis the various sectors we engage: i.e. the executive and legislative.
